In the Greek Islands, the combination of blue and white on the houses gives an artistic feel to the entire landscape. The lesser known fact is that the combination of blue and white is also a matter of law. Since 1974, by a decree passed by the ruling military government of the time, houses had to be painted white and blue, as a patriotic gesture to represent the colors of the Greek flag. And the white paint also gives bio-climatic benefits by keeping the houses cooler in the scorching heat of Greece.
I just loved the composition of this shot with the fence, stairs and the door in the traditional blue of the Greek Islands against the white wash of the walls. Have treated the photograph to retain the blue in the fence, railing and door, while converting the rest of the photograph to black & white / monotone.
